Enter and view at Milton Surgery

Healthwatch North Somerset carried out an Enter and View at Milton Surgery. We have now published out report, detailing all our findings, including observations, feedback from staff and patients and recommendations to improve the service

During the visit at Milton Surgery the Enter & View representatives kept a note of all their observations. These observations later helped to shape the recommendations put to the surgery. Some of their observations included

  • The outside of the building is fairly smart with a wheelchair friendly entrance
  • The front door is not automatic but there is a bell for patients to ring if they need assistance
  • No parking or disabled parking available
  • The reception area would benefit from a refurbishment
  • There is an electronic booking in system
  • Staff make phone calls from a private room to help with patient privacy
  • There are three interconnected waiting rooms and it is easy to negotiate with a wheelchair or pram.
  • There is a screen displaying waiting times
  • Conversations with the reception staff are easily overheard
  • There is a lot of information around the three waiting rooms and all of it appeared up to date.

Some of the recommendations the team made to the surgery to help them improve the service they offer patients included

  1. Internal decorations are in need of refurbishment
  2. An application could be made to the council for a disabled parking area on the street outside the surgery
  3. Signs for the toilets are only in one of the three waiting rooms - this could be done in all three
  4. The carpet through all three waiting areas is in need of replacing
  5. Background music could help with privacy at the reception desk
  6. There are no hearing loop signs which would be benefical to those wearning hearing aids
  7. Display names and pictures of staff somewhere within reception or waiting rooms
  8. Translation service signs should be included on all information boards
  9. There is no "You said, we did" board which wouls set an example to patients that you take their suggestions on board
  10. There was no statement on the information boards that the information could be provided in a different format - something that might be useful to some patients

Unfortunatley after sending our recommendations to the surgery we did not receive a response from them.
