Public living rooms set up to help local residents struggling with rising energy prices

A public living room is somewhere people can go to stay warm and have a hot drink as the cost of living crisis continues. North Somerset Council has mapped the public living rooms opening over the coming weeks.

The map shows the days and times that each space is open, and if any additional resources like power charging points and free Wifi will be available. Some public living rooms are simply somewhere a warm, comfortable space to share with others.

You won't be asked about your reason for using the space - everyone will be treated equally, with dignity and respect.

Our goal is to create a directory of all the places available to our residents across the public, private, health and voluntary sectors and to ensure this information is clearly promoted so everyone who is feeling the cold knows where they can go to get warm, stay warm and enjoy a little company and some hot refreshments.

Similar spaces, often called 'Welcoming Spaces' or 'Warm Spaces' are being set up across the country to help people reduce their heating costs.
