Women's only support group

A women's only support group has been launched for people who need help with addiction and their friends and family.

WAGS, Women’s Action Group, has been set up by Addaction North Somerset, the drugs and alcohol charity based in the Boulevard, Weston.

Team leader Julie Harper said: “Women often find it harder to come in and get help for addictions, so the aim of the group is to offer a safe, female-friendly environment.
“We also find more women relapse.”

The drop in sessions will offer treats such as nail care and movies alongside talks about subjects including domestic violence and empowerment. Throughout women can talk to peers and female support workers about their addictions and how to recover. Female friends, family and carers of users are also welcome to drop in for a coffee and a chat about any concerns they may have or help they need.

The group is already planning to hold a special event to celebrate National Women’s Day on March 8 and is raising money for day trips.

Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to drop in to WAGS, which takes place on Wednesdays from 12.30-2pm at 35 Boulevard. For more information call Helen Cleugh on 01934 427940 or email h.cleugh@addaction.org.uk
