Round up of our first board meeting in 2018

Our first public board meeting of 2018 was an absolute success, attended by members of the public and representatives from North Somerset Council, we definitely started the year as we mean to go on!

Gathering at Nailsea Methodist Church & Community Centre, our Chief Officer, Eileen Jacques, updated the Board and public on Healthwatch North Somerset’s activities over the last few months. Our Volunteer Enter and View coordinator, Sue Stone, talked about the GP the ‘Enter and View‘ programme we are currently running, and our operations coordinator, Vicky Marriott, fed back about the Young People’s take over day in November 2017.

During the second part of meeting Martin Smith, Associate Director of Transformation at North Somerset Community Partnership, discussed the NSCP plans for the next few years, a programme called ‘Innovate 2020‘.  Martin shared  how the NSCP have been innovative and are forerunners in utilising mobile technology as a tool for community nurses.  He shared how they have ensured that the new way of working was developed from a users perspective, with each nurse being given as much one to one training as they needed to ensure they felt confident and competent using the new system.  Martin shared how the system frees up nurse time as they complete the records as they go along and don’t need to type in written records when they return to the office. It was an interactive presentation with lots of interest and questions from the public – so much so that it overran by 15 minutes! We would like thank Martin and NSCP for their time and sharing information about the programme.

All of our Public Board meetings have guest speakers and the opportunity to them ask questions. These meetings are a really great opportunity to find out more about key Health and Social Care issues in North Somerset. If you haven’t yet attended one of our Public Board meetings why not come along to the next one – details will be always be publicised on our website
