Meals on wheels engagement November 2017

Healthwatch North Somerset Volunteers and staff joined ‘Meals on Wheels‘ for an hour as they visited people in their homes delivering meals in Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon.

We took the opportunity to gather the views of older, isolated members of the community, to capture their views on health and social care services.

We joined four drivers and gathered feedback from 21 people. This feedback has been entered into our monthly report. We joined the service during National Meals on Wheels Week in early November which is an initiative created to raise the profile of the meals on wheels service.

The  ‘Meals on Wheels’ service also saw the engagement as an opportunity to benefit from some awareness raising about the importance of their service. They told us they are happy for us to join them again. Jackie Alsopp, Service Coordinator, said “You are most welcome to come out with us at any time, maybe a monthly/quarterly slot for someone?.”

Healthwatch North Somerset’s statutory duty and remit is to provide a voice for people who use health and adult social care services, giving people an opportunity to have a say about their local health and social care service, including those whose voice isn’t usually heard.
