Last chance for spring booster and primary COVID-19 vaccinations

The NHS is encouraging people to come forward for their spring COVID-19 top-up vaccination before the seasonal campaign ends at the end of June 2023. Friday 30 June is also the last chance to get your first or second COVID vaccine.

After this, the NHS is moving to a targeted seasonal offer for people at increased risk of serious illness from a COVID infection.

There is still time to get protected, with appointments available at vaccination sites across Bristol. You can make a booking at using the online National Booking Service or by calling 119, free of charge. You can also find details of local walk-in community vaccination clinics at www.grabajab.net, where no appointment is needed.

Over 80,500 top-up COVID vaccinations have been given in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) this spring to:

  • people aged 75 and over;
  • people aged five and over with weakened immune systems;
  • and older adult care home residents.

The campaign started on 3 April with GPs and vaccination programme teams visiting adult care homes and people who are housebound. Roving teams have now visited all care homes in BNSSG.

Dr Geeta Iyer, Clinical Director of the BNSSG COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, said: "Most people in our area offered a top-up vaccine this spring have taken up the extra protection before potential exposure to the Covid virus over the summer. There is now just over a week for others who are eligible to come forward.

If you have had only one Covid vaccine so far, or none at all, it’s not too late. You can get vaccinated quickly and easily until 30 June. After that, the offer will become more targeted, like the flu vaccine. Please make the most of the next week by protecting yourself from Covid before the offer ends."

Anyone who believes they should be eligible for a vaccine but does not get invited can check using the online National Booking Service. Alternatively, they can self-declare via the National Booking Service and then speak to a clinician on site.

The last spring vaccination appointments will be offered on 30 June 2023. COVID-19 vaccinations for everyone who was aged 5 and over, on or before 31 August 2022, will also end after that date, following recent advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation. After 30 June, the NHS offer will become more targeted to those at increased risk, usually during seasonal campaigns.
