Zero suicide team up with Butcombe

North Somerset’s Samaritans group has teamed up with a brewery in Wrington to create a poster campaign aimed at tackling mental health issues among men.

The charity has also been working alongside other members of North Somerset’s Zero Suicide Collaborative to create the posters which will be displayed in the toilets of every pub owned by Butcombe Brewery.

The collaborative, which was founded last year, was set up in an attempt to bring suicide rates in the district as close to zero as possible through a number of groups working together including the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), 1in4 People, Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust and North Somerset Council, as well as people who have been affected by suicide.

A spokesman for Samaritans added:

“We hope to break down some of the barriers which prevent people, and men in particular, from talking about mental and emotional health.”

The poster campaign is also targeted at reducing levels of alcohol misuse, particularly in men, which can make the chance of someone committing suicide eight times more likely.

We are delighted that such a well-known company is joining our campaign to improve awareness around mental health.
