Golden times for Golden Wedding Anniversary

Our North Somerset volunteer Patricia and husband Garry celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary lockdown style with dinner for two – delivered to the front door.

Patricia used a bit of imagination to make the day special, she decorated her anniversary meal table for the occasion with a golden pepper pot and mat and a homemade card from her sister. To toast the milestone she and Garry had Kir Royale and Champagne with the curry from their local takeaway – and despite the coronavirus still had a memorable evening…at home!

The actual day was Maundy Thursday 1970 March 26 in Truro where Patricia was working at the local hospital. She remembers going into Falmouth and buying a dress and coat in a dress boutique. Garry was offered a job in Bristol at Rolls Royce to start after Easter bank holiday, so the couple got a special licence and had two days in Cornwall before driving on to Bristol.

“I thought the story would make a few people laugh. We still managed to celebrate at home despite lock-down. On the actual day we had bread and butter pudding as we are both on a diet, we had our meal the next day. We don’t really do normal at the moment due to the coronavirus. We hope everyone stays safe and well.”
